FAQ’s
What is the process for concrete polishing?
We first get an idea of what kind of finish you’re seeking and work through the design process. From there, we will schedule an install day. On the day of your appointment, we will grind the concrete floors using various compounds until we reach the desired look. Before we leave you with your new floors, we clean up and will go through care instructions.
How long can a polished concrete floor last?
With the proper care, a polished concrete floor will stand the test of time and last years, if not decades. This makes concrete one of the best flooring solutions for durability and longevity.
What are the benefits of polished concrete floors?
There are several advantages of polished concrete floors and surfaces. The low replacement costs are appealing to both homeowners and business owners seeking a cost-friendly flooring option. The low-maintenance nature of caring for polished concrete is also beneficial. You won’t need any special tools or cleaning solutions. Other factors include the flooring being incredibly durable, slip-resistant, and fire-resistant.
Why does concrete crack?
Cracked concrete is a result of various factors. First, wide temperature swings can lead to the floors to expand and contract and create cracks. Another possible reason is age. Older floors that haven’t been cared for overtime may show signs of wear and tear, and that includes cracking. Finally, poor installation will also lead to cracked concrete.
What kind of maintenance is associated with polished concrete floors?
Homeowners and business owners appreciate the low maintenance of polished concrete. You can use basic tools like mops, rags, and sponges to clean and removed debris. You also won’t need complex cleaners. Water-based solutions are all you will want to keep your floors looking like new.
Can concrete polishing remove oil stains?
This will depend on the stain. Some surface level stains may come out in our grinding process using our various tools. Some, however, may be too deep to do this with, and we will need to find another solution. Grinding too much will create low points in the concrete and give it an uneven look.
Why should I polish my concrete?
Polished concrete offers homeowners and business owners an easy maintenance solution that looks unique. Each floor turns out unique and is a beautiful way to protect your floors for years to come. You can add things like stains, color, patterns, and different levels of shine. They are truly customizable and go with almost any home decor style.
Can you add color to a polished concrete floor?
Yes. In the past years, companies like ours are not just polishers, but artists. We have learned about customizable options such as stains, dyes, patterns, and sheens. These features give floors endless options to make their floors look unique and one-of-a-kind.
Can you polish a damaged concrete floor?
This depends on the damage. Light wear and tear, like scratches and minor dents, can usually be dealt with through the polishing process. If the floors have major cracks, are crumbling, or chipping away, you will likely need a new floor poured.
Can all concrete be polished?
The short answer is no. We spend a good bit of time investigating your floors to learn about their structural integrity. We don’t want to polish floors that are in bad shape as you will only end up disappointed later. Not to mention, you will spend twice the money to correct any issues. When you hire our team, we will be transparent in letting you know if your floors are a candidate to be polished.
Will my floors stain easily?
This is a great question. Polished concrete isn’t stain-proof, but it is stain-resistant. What is the difference? Concrete is a porous material and can stain if you leave something like red wine on it all night. We advise to clean up spills as they happen to avoid any staining. The stain won’t happen right away, so you’ll have time to gather your cleaning materials.
Is polished concrete slippery?
In general, dry concrete floors are actually slip-resistant. You can walk around with bare feet with confidence. You’ll want to take a little extra care if the floors are wet. Like most surfaces, after a spill or cleaning, the flooring will be more slippery.
We are trying to be more eco-conscious; are these floors eco-friendly?
You’ll be thrilled to know that since concrete is plentiful and doesn’t require stripping forests to source, they are more eco-friendly than most anything else on the market. Concrete is also recyclable. In fact, many recycled concrete projects are found in playgrounds and ocean reefs.
Can I use polished concrete in wet areas, like a bathroom?
Yes. We would suggest using a grind and seal type option to ensure the floors have more grip, but it’s possible. Bathrooms, kitchens, steam rooms, patios, and the like, are easier to clean and keep sanitary in these spaces.
What will diminish polished concrete's shine?
You will want to stay away from harsh chemicals and anything with acid. So, we suggest not using cleaning solutions with citrus or concoctions of chemicals as they will result in an etched surface.
How long will it take to polish my concrete floor?
We would love to be able to give you a definitive answer, but it’s more complex. Aside from the size of the project, what is more important, how complicated is the project? What kind of spaces are we working with, and will we need different tools to get the job done. Smaller rooms go a little longer than larger ones since we have to use smaller tools to get to the nooks and crannies.
How long do I own to shut down my business for an install?
We know that time is money, so we work with you to schedule your concrete floor project, so it disrupts your business as little as possible. We can potentially work in sections and keep business flowing with creative sectioning off. The size of your project, as you might guess, is crucial in how long we will need to complete your project. Call us today, and we can give you a better time estimate.
